Monaghan’s Sam Moffett and his Cavan co-driver James Fulton in their Ford Fiesta R5 won the Hotel Kilmore Cavan Rally, Round 4 of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship. Sam beat the more powerful WRC Fiesta of Roy White by 29 seconds with Josh Moffett taking third place in another R5 Fiesta.
White, whose second place extends his lead at the top of the national standings, led initially before being overtaken by Declan Boyle, But the two-times champion retired his WRC Fiesta soon afterwards with alternator problems.
Best Mayo result was Paul McLaughlin who was navigating for Seamus Leonard in a S14 Subaru WRC, despite dropping time with spins and stalls getting familiar with the new car they finished the event 6th overall and 3rd in Class 7.
Aaron Machale and Paul McGee brought their Skoda Fabia home in 11th place and won Class 5.
Jared Gill again navigating for Ray Cunningham was 42nd and 2nd in Class 9.
Achill’s Brian Lavelle finished 49th and 2nd in Class 1. Foxford’s James McGreal and Chris Mitchell brought their Evo home 50th and 2nd in Class 15.
Stephen Doherty who had borrowed Alan Moran’s Peugeot 206 finished (without a mark) in 69th. Derek Bolton and Lorcan Moore finished 74th and 3rd in Class 15.
Unlucky not to finish were father and son team Brian & Ronan Moore who after some great times in the Honda civic succumbed to 2 punctures on the final stage, also failing to finish were Barry Cuffe and Stephen McGing who suffered electrical problems in their Escort MK2
