Mayo Navi’s top of their Class in Clare
Ed O’Callaghan and Ger Clancy scored a remarkable victory in their Ford Escort Mk2 on last Sunday’s Oak Wood Arms Hotel Clare Stages Rally.
Despite treacherous conditions and only having 2 wheel drive against 4 wheel drive opposition, O’Callaghan and Clancy blazed a trail through the opening two stages to lead by 8.3 seconds at the first service halt of the day. His nearest pursuer was Monaghan’s Daniel McKenna, who had Mayo club member Kevin Glynn on the notes, the pair were making just their second appearance together in the P1 Rally Rentals Ford Fiesta R5.
A puncture on the Fiesta on stage 4 saw McKenna and Glynn drop down to eight and out of contention although they battled back to fourth overall, posting fastest times on the final two stages of the day and also taking the top honors in Class five.
Tubbercurry’s Aidan Gannon also had a good day in the navigators seat calling the notes for Anthony O’ Brien, the pair brought their Evo 9 home 16th overall and 1st in Class 9.
